Just made a minor goofup. Snapshots can be removed on a kernel newer than the one I have. Sorry if made someone work more than expected. --Rbanffy 12:14, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Explain "snapshot-aware defrag" with a link

"Snapshot-aware defrag" being disabled is serious, so the mention needs to link to an explanation of what it is. A good one is at Changelog#By_feature, but it's far from the link target. A less clear one is at Project_ideas#Snapshot_aware_defrag. --AVRS (talk) 21:29, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

filefrag vs compression

On Debian testing here, filefrag shows hundreds or thousands of extents for compressed files (maybe only one method), but only a few the same files uncompressed. --AVRS (talk) 21:32, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

“As implemented in btrfs right now, the compression step splits a big extent into smaller chunks and this is reported as a heavily fragmented file.” (David Sterba on some mailing lists, 2013-12-12, "fiemap: introduce EXTENT_DATA_COMPRESSED flag") --AVRS (talk) 22:35, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
